RipIt4Me Tutorial: Backing Up Your DVD Collection Easily

RipIt4Me is a legacy, freeware front-end tool designed to bypass tough DVD copy protections (like ARccOS and RipGuard) by working in tandem with secondary tools like DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. Because RipIt4Me does not actually rip the data itself, it serves as an automated wizard that cleans up a DVD’s file structure and hands the heavy lifting off to those classic background engines.

Note: RipIt4Me is a vintage Windows utility from the mid-2000s. While it remains a nostalgia-fueled solution for archiving older DVD collections, it has not been updated in years and struggle with modern encryption or operating systems. Prerequisites: What You Need First

Before opening RipIt4Me, you must download and place the core files in the same folder or point to their install paths within RipIt4Me’s Preferences menu: RipIt4Me.exe: The core wizard software.

DVD Decrypter: The primary engine used to pull raw data from the disc.

DVD Shrink (Optional): Used if you want to compress the final files to fit on standard single-layer blanks. Step-by-Step Ripping Guide 1. Open the “Wizard Mode”

Insert your original DVD into your PC’s disc drive. Launch RipIt4Me and select Wizard Mode from the main menu. This step auto-detects the disc, checks its region, and analyzes whether any advanced anti-piracy protections are present on the track. 2. Choose Your Path and Target

Select your target DVD drive and choose an output folder on your hard drive where the movie files will land. You will be prompted to choose between backing up the Full DVD (including menus and extras) or Movie Only to save digital storage space. 3. Create the PSL File & Run DVD Decrypter

Click the Create PSL file button. RipIt4Me will analyze the disc for intentionally corrupted sectors (fake titles or bad cells used to confuse standard rippers) and map them out in a Protected Sector List (PSL) file. Next, click Rip DVD. This automatically fires up DVD Decrypter in the background, applies the custom PSL map, and extracts the clean files straight to your storage drive. 4. Clean the Files with FixVTS

Once DVD Decrypter finishes, RipIt4Me runs an internal code cleanup routine (historically powered by a tool called FixVTS). It strips away the fake unreadable sectors, patches the structural pointers, and ensures the resulting .VOB and .IFO files comply with standard hardware media players. 5. Optional Compression (DVD Shrink)

If you configured it beforehand, RipIt4Me will seamlessly open the final cleaned folder inside DVD Shrink. This allows you to compress a heavy dual-layer disc down to a 4.7 GB single-layer footprint or strip away foreign language audio tracks you do not need. Modern Alternatives

If you are running modern hardware like Windows 10 or 11, setting up this old trio of legacy programs can be overly complicated. Consider modern, actively updated alternatives:

MakeMKV: The current gold standard for losslessly converting DVDs and Blu-rays into universal .MKV video files in just one click.

HandBrake: A completely free, open-source video transcoder perfect for compressing large ripped files into lightweight, device-friendly formats like .MP4 or .WebM.
